About Dawn

Raised in a small farming community in Minnesota, little did I know the journey God had in store for me!

Inheriting a nomadic spirit from my Grandpa Joe, who hopped a train out west as a young man, I could not wait to get away from the corn fields I grew up amongst. During my first job behind the fuel desk in a truck stop, a timeworn lady advised me, “get out and see the world while you’re young, ’cause when you’re old, you won’t have the energy.” Meeting people with foreign accents, tales from big cities, and stories of far away places added to the escapist dreams I had developed from reading adventure books as a child.

I wanted-no, I needed-to see and to experience everything!

Doing things “on my own” for a few years after high school, I wandered in and out of jobs, roommates, and colleges, sometimes getting into sticky and dangerous situations. I grew exhausted, broke, and overwhelmed. The day my car broke down, I decided to move home. I hadn’t invited God into my plans and I needed to regroup and look toward my future, so…

I got right with God. And then I became a travel agent-a career that would pay me to see the world, or so I thought. That career didn’t provide enough money to pay for vacations, but it did bring me to my husband, a man with that same nomadic spirit as my grandpa. His job has brought us to more places, with more changes and challenges than anything I’d ever imagined, and we are still going strong-keeping God in the heart of it all.

Through several moves, raising a child, and managing a home, I’ve earned degrees and diplomas in Humanities, English Literature, Business Management, Travel, and Children’s Literature. I’ve seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, the Musee D’Orsay, the Van Gogh (sounds like Goff) museum, the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo’s Statue of David, the Georgia O’keefe museum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and countless other artifacts, too many to name.  Words and Art are my passions.

You’ll find tidbits about people, books, vivid colors, and God here, because those are things I love. Some have said that I see the world through rose-colored glasses, but I think it’s rather with a luminescent glow.
